Meet your Training Instructors

Our instructors combine knowledge from multiple disciplines and real-world experience to equip your team with essential skills and effective solutions. Sharp End Rescue instructors are required to maintain active service in the field to expand their personal experience base and to stay on top of the ever changing demands of the job.

  • Andy is the Founder of Sharp End Rescue and technical rescue professional with over a decade of experience in technical rope and swiftwater rescue. His work is grounded in real-world operations where sound judgment, efficient systems, and strong teamwork are critical.

    He is an active member of Stowe Mountain Rescue, a Regular Member Team of the Mountain Rescue Association and serves on the International Technical Rescue Association (ITRA) Board of Directors. Andy is an ITRA Rope Rescue Instructor and ITRA Swiftwater Instructor, contributing to the training, evaluation, and professional development of rescuers at an international level. He additionally holds a Level 2 Rope Access Technician certification for the Society of Professional Rope Access Technicians(SPRAT). Andy is a Technical Rescue Specialist with Jay Peak Ski Patrol at Jay Peak Ski Resort, where he trains and supports complex rescue operations and rope work in challenging mountain environments.

    Beyond the hundreds of technical rescue operations he’s been involved with- His experience includes participation in the International Rope Rescue Competition, GRIMP DAY 2024 and 2025 and Petzl RopeTrip The Americas  2026, Reflecting an ongoing commitment to skill refinement, professional collaboration, and operational excellence within the global technical rescue community.

    Andy earned a bachelor’s degree in Park and Recreation – Outdoor Leadership & Education from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. Known for his approachable, student-focused teaching style, he emphasizes practical application, clear decision-making, and preparing rescuers for the realities of operating at the sharp end.

    When not on rope or in the water professionally -  He spends his time with his wife and daughter building their homestead and exploring the mountains and tributaries throughout Vermont and beyond.
